Born in a small village in Punjab, jas mand earned an Honours degree in English from Punjab, followed by an LL.M. (Honours) and a Ph.D. in International Law from Moscow.

Over a professional career spanning thirteen years, he moved across diverse roles—from Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Government of India to trading firms and entrepreneurial ventures in India and the United States. His final formal engagement was as Managing Trustee (pro bono) of Nawan Zamana, a Punjabi daily newspaper.

At the age of forty-four, jas mand chose to step away from regular employment to follow his deeper interests: reading, writing, travelling, and painting.

In addition to working on canvas, he has authored books in both English and Punjabi, and regularly writes on current affairs for Punjabi newspapers.

jas mand lives with his wife, Rita, in a tiny Himalayan village during summers, and takes to vagabonding in winter.
